How the net score is calculated
Net score = (correct × marks per question) − (wrong × deduction per wrong). With fractional schemes like 1/4, the deduction equals that fraction of the question's marks — so a 2-mark question with 1/4 negative marking loses 0.5 per wrong answer.

Frequently asked questions
What is negative marking?
A penalty deducted for every wrong answer. If an exam has 1/4 negative marking with +2 per question, every wrong answer deducts 0.5 marks from your total.
Which exams have 0.25 negative marking?
Most SSC exams (CGL Tier 1 Hindi/English sections vary), IBPS, SBI and RBI exams deduct 0.25 of the marks per wrong answer. SSC CGL Tier-1 deducts 0.50 per wrong question of 2 marks.
Are unattempted questions penalised?
No. Questions left blank score zero and attract no penalty in standard Indian competitive exams.
Does NEET have negative marking?
Yes. NEET awards +4 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one.
